Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, one of Europe’s main aviation hubs, canceled approximately 90 flights on Sunday, October 25, due to strong winds caused by Storm Boelo. Most of the flights served European destinations, including Paris, Rome and Dublin.
Dozens of flights scheduled to land in Amsterdam were also canceled or delayed. Agence France-Presse identified 90 cancellations on the airport’s departures page, but Schiphol did not specify the total number of affected flights and did not immediately respond to a request for information.
“Due to the strong winds, fewer flights will depart from and arrive at the airport on Sunday, October 25,” the airport administration said.
Storms Boelo and Austen also affected France, marking the first major storms of the season. They struck the country’s northwest on Thursday night into Friday. A 62-year-old man died, and two other people were taken to hospital.
On Friday evening, the orange wind alert remained in effect in several departments in northern France, including the Hauts-de-France region and the coastline between Côtes-d’Armor and Seine-Maritime. According to Météo-France, Storm Austen subsequently moved toward the Benelux countries and Germany.
