Dozens of Ryanair flights scheduled to depart from or land at Brussels Charleroi Airport on Friday were canceled due to an air traffic controllers’ strike. Among the affected flights were services between Charleroi and Cluj-Napoca, as well as between Charleroi and Bucharest.

The canceled flights included the Charleroi–Cluj service scheduled for 6:35 a.m., the Cluj-Napoca–Charleroi flight due to land at 12:00 p.m., the Bucharest–Charleroi service scheduled to arrive at 10:55 p.m., and the Charleroi–Bucharest flight scheduled for 4:50 p.m. Brussels South Charleroi Airport is the main option for many Romanians traveling between Belgium and Romania.

The strike began on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. and takes place every night, from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., and is set to continue through October 10 inclusive. On Thursday, 40 flights were canceled, all operated by Ryanair, the airport’s largest airline.

Airlines are trying to reduce the impact of the protest, including by returning aircraft to their bases before the strike begins. Wizz Air flights were not listed as canceled on Friday, although some were delayed by more than an hour.
