Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel alert for Belgium on Tuesday, September 15, amid announced overnight strikes by air traffic controllers at Charleroi Airport. The protests are scheduled to take place from September 16 to October 10, 2026, between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., and may affect flight schedules.
The Foreign Ministry advises Romanian citizens who are in Belgium, transiting the country or planning to travel there to check flight status directly with the airlines in advance. Passengers are advised to monitor any schedule changes and consult the information published on the Charleroi Airport website.
For consular assistance, Romanians may contact the Embassy of Romania in Brussels at +32 (0) 2 347 5338, +32 (0) 2 344 1658 and +32 (0) 2 343 6935. Calls are answered around the clock by the Contact and Support Center for Romanian Citizens Abroad. In emergencies, the number +32 (0) 497 428 663 may be called.
The Foreign Ministry recommends consulting bruxelles.mae.ro and www.mae.ro, as well as using the “Travel Informed” application.
