The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns that strikes and announced trade union actions in Belgium may cause major disruptions to public and air transport in Brussels starting on October 9, 2026.
The metro, tram and bus networks in the Belgian capital may operate at reduced frequency, while some stations could be closed. Approximately 140 flight cancellations are expected at Brussels-Zaventem Airport.
Meanwhile, overnight trade union actions by some air traffic controllers, scheduled through October 10 inclusive, between 22:00 and 08:00, may cause flight delays or cancellations at Brussels South Charleroi Airport.
A public-sector strike, including in the rail sector, has been announced for the period from October 11 at 22:00 to October 12 at 22:00. The protest could affect SNCB-NMBS trains and transport operated by STIB-MIVB.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Romanian citizens check the situation before travelling, consider alternative routes, allow extra time for journeys and contact airlines for updated information. Consular assistance is available at the Embassy of Romania in Brussels, including via the emergency number +32 (0) 497 428 663.
