Approximately 200 flights were canceled in the United Kingdom on Tuesday after a technical problem occurred in the air traffic management system. London Heathrow Airport was the most affected, according to the FlightRadar24 monitoring platform.

Sixty-eight flights were canceled from Heathrow, while 25 were canceled from Gatwick, London’s second-largest airport. Disruptions were also reported at airports in Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh. In addition to cancellations, the malfunction caused significant delays at several British airports.

NATS, the company that manages air traffic control for 15 airports in the United Kingdom, announced that the problems occurred in the flight-processing system. British airspace was not closed, but flight operations were affected.

British Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said that technicians had identified the cause of the incident and were working to fix it. Authorities have not yet announced how long it will take to return to the normal schedule.
