The United States spent approximately $38 billion in the first six months of the war with Iran, according to an estimate by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), cited by Agerpres. Costs could increase by another $3 billion for each month the conflict continues.

The largest share of the spending comes from the rapid consumption of ammunition. The CBO estimates that replenishing U.S. military stockpiles could take up to five years. Reuters reported in August that the United States had used “virtually all” of the long-range precision missiles available during the war.

A report by the Pentagon’s Inspector General, cited by AFP, shows that Operation “Epic Fury,” conducted between February 28 and June 30, cost approximately $33.4 billion. Of this amount, $22.3 billion was spent on the ammunition used.

The conflict has also led to higher energy prices and could raise inflation by 0.5% in the first three months of 2027. A Harvard professor estimates that the war could ultimately cost one trillion dollars. The estimates come as the U.S. federal budget is already under considerable strain, while the depletion of stockpiles raises questions about the United States’ ability to respond to potential future conflicts. The CBO stated that the Department of Defense did not cooperate with the congressional financial auditors.
