Air traffic controllers in Norway went on strike on Friday morning, and this is expected to continue at least until the beginning of next week.

Major airlines, such as Norwegian, SAS, and Widerøe, have already canceled dozens of domestic and regional flights, which will cause significant disruptions to travel across the country.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has issued a travel warning for Romanian citizens transiting or wishing to travel to Norway, informing them that between August 21-24, 2026, air traffic will be affected by the strike.

Gardermoen International Airport will be closed on August 23 between 06:30 and 11:30.

MAE recommends that Romanian citizens check the availability of flights and register on the econsulat.ro platform. Consular assistance can be requested at the phone numbers of the Romanian Embassy in Norway, and in case of emergency, citizens can call the emergency phone of the Embassy. MAE encourages consulting official websites for additional information.
