The police in Taiwan announced that they have dismantled a significant network of illegal online sports betting, which operated in the context of the 2026 World Cup, recording bets worth nearly 300 million dollars.

Although Taiwan did not qualify for the competition, interest in football remains high among the island's residents. The fourth police precinct in Tainan conducted a raid on a residence, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals and the confiscation of computer equipment, mobile phones, records, and cash amounts.

Among those arrested, five were from Hong Kong and Macau, holding tourist visas, and were participating in this betting network. Authorities stated that the network collected nearly 10 billion Taiwanese dollars (approximately 313 million US dollars) from bets on the competition matches, with the organizers renting a five-story property to carry out illegal activities.
