The illegal online gambling market aimed at consumers in the European Union has reached 91.6 billion euros by 2025, and European governments have lost approximately 23 billion euros in taxes and contributions.
The report shows that the illegal gambling market remains very strong, fueled by easy access to unlicensed platforms and the rapid migration of players to unregulated online offers. In this context, the authors of the study cited by Profit.ro warn that losses for public budgets and licensed operators continue to grow.
In short, the phenomenon is no longer just an issue of unfair competition, but also a fiscal and consumer protection issue.
