Sweden may have to ration fuel in the coming months due to the significant impact of the conflict in the Middle East on the economy, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said. Although rationing is not currently being considered, the government is prepared for this possibility.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has led to rising oil prices, affecting the Swedish economy and causing a severe energy crisis. Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson mentioned that measures such as tax cuts on fuel have already been implemented, but rationing could be considered if the conflict prolongs.
The government will issue recommendations for fuel conservation and will analyze the increase in energy production from renewable sources. A new set of economic forecasts will be published on May 1.
