Prosecutors detained four people in the bribery case at Ovidius Medicine: more than 37,100 euros were allegedly demanded to pass the exams

Four people have been detained by prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) – Constanța Territorial Service in a case involving the alleged rigging of exams at the Faculty of Medicine of Ovidius University of Constanța. The charges concern accepting bribes and aiding and abetting the acceptance of bribes, allegedly committed between May and September 2026.

Among the defendants are a university assistant from the Department of Anatomy, accused of repeated bribery, as well as a university teaching assistant and two students, accused of allegedly facilitating the collection of money from their classmates. According to prosecutors, at least 15 students have been identified as allegedly seeking to fraudulently pass colloquiums and make-up exams.

The sums allegedly handed over ranged from €600 for a colloquium to €2,500 for an exam. The total value of the benefit obtained has so far been estimated at more than €37,100, from which the intermediaries allegedly kept commissions.

On September 4, investigators carried out searches at 26 locations in Constanța and the surrounding county, including homes, medical offices, the university headquarters and a medical facility. Unjustified sums of money were seized. The four are due to appear before the Constanța Tribunal, with prosecutors seeking 30 days of pretrial detention. The investigation is continuing against other people as well, while the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. }
