The low water level of the Danube disrupts navigation: A loaded vessel has become stranded near Ruse

Low water levels on the Danube continue to hamper navigation along the Bulgarian section of the river after a loaded self-propelled vessel became stranded on Friday near an anchorage area in the Ruse region. The vessel was outside the navigable channel at the time of the incident.

Bulgarian authorities said the vessel poses no pollution risk. No leaks or environmental damage have been reported, while monitoring and inspection operations continue.

Data from the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River show that water levels recorded minor changes over the past 24 hours. In Silistra, the water level rose by 2 centimeters, while in Novo Selo it remained unchanged. At the other monitoring stations, decreases of 1–2 centimeters were recorded.

Under these conditions, all restrictions on vessel drafts remain in force along the entire Bulgarian section of the Danube.
