Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered attacks on Kyiv to cease for a period of three days, the Kremlin announced on Saturday, September 5. The decision is linked to the planned visit to the Ukrainian capital by U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.

According to the announcement issued by the Kremlin, the pause in attacks is expected to coincide with the two U.S. representatives’ trip to Kyiv. No further details have been provided so far regarding the exact time when the halt in attacks will take effect or when it will end.

Moscow’s announcement comes amid diplomatic efforts concerning the war in Ukraine and contacts between U.S. representatives and officials in Kyiv. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are the envoy and representative, respectively, of the U.S. administration involved in discussions regarding the conflict.

The Kremlin did not specify whether the measure applies exclusively to Kyiv or whether it will also affect other areas of Ukraine. The information about the three-day duration and its connection to the U.S. envoys’ visit was communicated by the Russian side:
