Trump’s envoys held “substantive” talks with Putin. Meetings in Kyiv and new plans to stop the war are next

President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held “substantive” talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow as part of American efforts to find a solution to end the war in Ukraine. The White House announced that plans for the next steps will be presented in the coming weeks, while U.S. representatives are expected to hold further meetings in Kyiv.

Images published by the Kremlin show Witkoff and Kushner being welcomed by the Russian leader at his official residence. The talks, held behind closed doors, lasted approximately three hours. Putin’s adviser, Yuri Ushakov, described them as “constructive” and “extremely candid.”

According to information published by the BBC, Steve Witkoff thanked Putin for the agreement to suspend attacks on the capitals of the other parties for three days. The two American envoys will travel to Kyiv on Sunday, which will be their first visit of this kind to the Ukrainian capital.

Trump said that his representatives were taking a proposal to Moscow to end the war.

So far, negotiations backed by the United States and its allies have not resulted in a peace agreement.

The talks in Moscow focused both on the Ukrainian conflict and its causes, as well as on possible Russian-American economic projects.
