Russia has resumed attacks on Kyiv after a three-day pause

Powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv on Tuesday morning, shortly after a three-day suspension of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s capital expired. The city’s military administration announced a missile attack and urged residents to go to shelters, stating that air defenses had been activated.

Authorities reported strikes on buildings in Kyiv, as well as in the suburban districts of Boryspil and Fastiv. AFP journalists observed trails of smoke and what appeared to be the flames of a fire. No complete information was immediately provided about any possible casualties or the extent of the damage.

The attack is the first on Kyiv in the past three nights. The ceasefire had been announced in the context of U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s visit to Russia and Ukraine. The two met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow, then held talks in Kyiv with Volodymyr Zelensky, together with European representatives.

Despite the negotiations, Russia and Ukraine remain far from an agreement, particularly because of disputes over territories in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin does not rule out resuming the talks, while Zelensky says he is preparing the next meetings.
