Several waves of Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv on Friday night, hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia was preparing a new large-scale attack on infrastructure. At least five people were injured in the capital, while another casualty was reported in the region surrounding Kyiv.
A 14-year-old girl is among those injured in the city. Two other people were taken to hospital, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Ukraine’s Air Force said that at least six missiles were launched at Kyiv within a few minutes, shortly before 11 p.m.
The attack damaged a five-story residential building and shattered the windows of another similar building in the Solomianskyi district. A fire broke out at a non-residential building, while a kindergarten in the same neighborhood was damaged.
The North Bridge, an important city landmark, was also affected and temporarily closed. New explosions were reported at 3:04 a.m., and at 3:30 a.m. ballistic missiles heading toward Kyiv were reported. Emergency services responded in the affected areas.
