Kyiv was targeted by a new missile attack on Wednesday night, leaving six people injured and several homes damaged, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Moscow, in turn, was targeted by hundreds of drones launched by Ukraine. The attacks took place a few hours after the meeting in St. Petersburg between U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid intensified diplomatic efforts to end the war.
A 25-story building and a metro station in the Ukrainian capital were hit. Ukrainian authorities reported new Russian attacks, while Moscow announced the interception of approximately 160 drones heading toward Moscow. In the city of Lipetsk, a man was injured after drones struck residential buildings and a medical facility.
Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov stated that Russia is, in principle, prepared to resume trilateral negotiations with Ukraine and the United States, but only around November 10. Kyiv maintains that the talks should resume as soon as possible and proposes freezing the front line as a first step.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism and assured on Wednesday that an outcome is approaching, saying that the world is “perhaps the closest” it has been to ending the war.
