Russian attack on Kyiv: three dead, including a child / Romania and Poland scrambled fighter jets

Airstrikes launched by Russian forces against Kyiv and the surrounding region on Wednesday morning killed three people, including a child, and injured seven others, according to Ukrainian officials cited by Reuters. The strikes caused fires and damage to homes, warehouses, cars and infrastructure.

Kyiv’s military administration announced that two people were killed and four injured in the capital. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that private homes and a warehouse were damaged. In the Kyiv region, Governor Timur Tkachenko said that a Russian missile and drone killed a child and injured three other people.

During the attacks, Romania and Poland scrambled fighter jets to protect their airspace. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that the overnight attack struck a communications centre in Kyiv, energy facilities in the region and port infrastructure in Izmail.

Separately, a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Samara region damaged private homes, according to local authorities. Reuters said the information could not be independently verified.
