Russian airstrikes on the city of Zaporizhzhia, in southeastern Ukraine, killed at least eight people on Saturday morning, including three children. Another 16 people were injured, while 12 remain missing, according to Ukrainian authorities cited by Agence France-Presse.
Russian forces launched five guided aerial bombs at residential neighborhoods in the capital of the Zaporizhzhia region. Two of the bombs struck residential buildings, and emergency services intervened to search for and rescue victims trapped under the rubble.
The death toll rose from seven to eight after authorities continued checking the attack site. Ivan Fedorov, a representative of the regional administration, confirmed that three children were among the victims.
Zaporizhzhia is located several dozen kilometers from the front line and is frequently targeted by Russian attacks. Russia has intensified its strikes on Ukrainian territory in recent months, leading to a rise in civilian casualties. Diplomatic efforts mediated by the United States to end the war have so far produced no result.
