The Romanian government is preparing to intervene in the fuel market, in the context of the risk of shortages, according to statements by the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare.

He announced the introduction of a dynamic reduction system for fuel excise duties, with values between 5% and 25%, in response to discussions with operators in the oil industry. The proposed amendments aim to adapt the legislation to the current realities of the market, considering the high pressure on supply. The measures will initially apply for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The Social Democrats have also requested a limitation on diesel exports and the establishment of a temporary solidarity contribution for operators with high profits.

In contrast, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that he does not expect supply problems in the next two weeks, despite Kazakhstan suspending oil deliveries through the CPC pipeline. The Rompetrol company is seeking alternative solutions to maintain production at the Petromidia refinery.
