Sainsbury's has announced the testing of facial recognition technology in two stores, aimed at combating theft in retail. Although the company emphasizes that the system will not monitor customers or employees, privacy protection groups have criticized the initiative, recalling complaints received by rival Asda for a similar test. The technology will help identify violent or aggressive individuals, and recordings will be deleted if there is no recognition. Sainsbury's management states that the goal is to protect employees and customers from criminal behaviors.
