More than eight months after the largest layoffs in Amazon's history, thousands of former employees are facing a crowded job market amid job cuts in the tech sector.
Amazon has eliminated approximately 30,000 positions in two waves, and since the beginning of 2022, the total number of jobs cut has exceeded 57,000. Other large companies, such as Meta and Microsoft, have contributed to a total loss of 140,000 jobs in the tech industry in the U.S. Artificial intelligence is cited as the main reason for the restructuring, accounting for 23% of the announced layoffs.
Within Amazon, the use of AI has become a priority, and employees are encouraged to integrate it into their work. The company has started recruiting in countries with lower costs, such as India, while former employees are adapting to a constantly changing job market where skills in AI are becoming essential.
