Microsoft has launched a voluntary separation program for eligible employees in the United States, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom, amid massive investments in infrastructure for artificial intelligence. The program targets approximately 60,000 employees from several of the company’s divisions.
The offer is aimed at staff in areas such as artificial intelligence, Copilot, finance, human resources, Xbox, and Windows + Devices. The marketing, commercial activities, and security divisions are not included at this stage.
“This offer gives eligible employees who may be considering a future outside the company a new option to make this transition right now, with support,” said Amy Coleman, Microsoft’s chief human resources officer, in an internal message.
As of June 30, 2026, Microsoft had 223,000 full-time employees worldwide. The company is investing hundreds of billions of dollars in data centers and chips for artificial intelligence, and the scale of this spending has fueled investors’ questions about its profitability.
