Russian authorities may abandon the organization of the traditional Victory Day parade, scheduled for May 9, due to the intensification of security risks generated by the conflict with Ukraine. According to united24media, Moscow is considering canceling these parades, citing the threat of new long-range Ukrainian missiles. Russian military bloggers warn about the vulnerability of public events, highlighting the impact that an air alert would have during the parade. A rehearsal scheduled for April 5 was interrupted, fueling speculation about the postponement of the event. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov avoided providing clear details about the cancellation.
Concerns are related to the "Flamingo" cruise missile, which can reach Moscow, and the effectiveness of Ukrainian missiles in attacks on strategic targets. Since the beginning of the invasion, the May 9 parades have lost their scale, and this year they could be affected by new Ukrainian capabilities, which reduce the sense of security in Russia. This situation reflects the pressure that the conflict exerts on Russian military resources and on the Kremlin's image of strength.
