INS: Industrial production fell by 3.7% in the first seven months of 2026

Industrial production in Romania fell by 3.7% in the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). Adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality, the decline was 3.8%.

The decrease was mainly driven by manufacturing, which recorded a decline of 4.8% on a gross series basis and 5% on an adjusted series basis. The extractive industry fell by 1% and 1.2%, respectively. By contrast, the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning increased by 2.3% on a gross series basis and by 1.9% on an adjusted series basis.

In July 2026, industrial production increased by 0.7% compared with the previous month, on a gross series basis, supported by the extractive industry (+7.1%) and the energy sector (+6.4%). Manufacturing fell by 0.5%. On an adjusted series basis, however, industrial production was 1.4% lower than in June.

Compared with July 2025, industrial production fell by 6.3% on a gross series basis and by 6.1% on an adjusted series basis, mainly due to manufacturing.
