According to IGSU, Romania is contributing to a European program dedicated to forest fire extinguishing, carried out under the coordination of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) and organized by DG ECHO. The mission aims to support the Greek authorities in managing fire risks. The first contingent, consisting of 40 firefighters, has moved to Nea Makri, in the Attica region, near Athens. The Romanian module is equipped with specialized equipment, including fire engines with varying capacities, a 30,000-liter water tank, and a vehicle equipped with a pilotless aircraft system. The personnel will be rotated on August 16 and 31, when two other contingents will take over the mission. Romania has been participating in this program for the fifth consecutive year, alongside teams from the Czech Republic, France, and the Republic of Moldova, thus contributing to the European strategy for the prevention and combat of forest fires.
