The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) announces that on Monday, July 16, 2026, the second shift of the national specialized module for forest fire extinguishing will depart for France. The 40 Romanian firefighters will take over the operational responsibilities from their colleagues who are already on the ground, thus continuing Romania's mission within the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The intervention equipment of the Romanian module is already deployed in France and is being used in operational activities.
The new contingent will take over the fire engines and necessary equipment. The Romanian firefighters will collaborate with other European teams to limit and extinguish vegetation and forest fires, thus reaffirming Romania's commitment to European solidarity and international cooperation in the field of civil protection. This mission contributes to strengthening the common response capacity in the face of the high risks of forest fires.
