Serbia is facing devastating wildfires and has requested international assistance. Romania responded promptly, sending 69 firefighters from 9 counties, along with 15 technical means and a Black Hawk helicopter. They were greeted with applause and thanks from the Serbs, who appreciated the efforts of the Romanian rescuers.
Minister Cătălin Predoiu emphasized the importance of the mission, having both a humanitarian dimension and a moral one, given the historical ties between the two countries.
Romanian firefighters, recognized for their expertise, intervened in several affected areas, working to limit the spread of the fires. The interventions continued even during the night, demonstrating the professionalism of the Romanian teams.
Predoiu thanked the rescuers for their dedication, which contributes to Romania's prestige on the international stage. Social media in Serbia is filled with messages of appreciation for Romanian assistance, and Serbian politicians have also conveyed thanks to Romanian officials.
