Elena Rybakina won the US Open / The Kazakh defeated Arina Sabalenka in three sets

Elena Rybakina won the US Open, the year's final Grand Slam tournament, after defeating Arina Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 on Saturday in the final held in New York.

The match lasted two hours and 21 minutes.

The victory gives the 27-year-old player from Kazakhstan the third Grand Slam title of her career. Rybakina previously won Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open at the beginning of this year, when she also defeated Sabalenka in the final.

The success at Flushing Meadows also confirms the change at the top of the world rankings. Rybakina, who was ranked second before the tournament, had already secured the dethroning of the Belarusian from the WTA No. 1 position.

Sabalenka thus missed the chance to win the US Open trophy for the third consecutive year, after claiming the titles in 2024 and 2025. She has contested nine Grand Slam finals and lost five of them. In their head-to-head matches, the Belarusian leads 10-8, including after her victory in their first Grand Slam final, at the 2023 Australian Open.

For her triumph in New York, Rybakina received a prize of 5.5 million dollars, while Sabalenka will collect 2.8 million dollars.
