The world number one was seriously tested by the Czech player, who led in the third set and was playing in her first US Open quarterfinal. Sabalenka came through in the important moments, kept her composure, and closed out the match after a tense tiebreak.
Jessica Pegula qualified for the US Open semifinals for the 3rd consecutive time after defeating Emma Navarro. The 3rd seed came back from losing the first set and being a break down in the decider to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the semifinals, the American, who became the first player in history to reach her first 4 Grand Slam semifinals after turning 30, will face Aryna Sabalenka once again.
The final quarterfinal matches at the US Open take place today. The session on the main court, Arthur Ashe, begins at 18:30 with the clash between Elena Rybakina and Qinwen Zheng.
Immediately after the first match ends, but not before 19:30, the headline matchup of the day pits Mirra Andreeva (No. 5 seed) against Coco Gauff (No. 4 seed).
