Romanian firefighters carried out their first intervention mission in France, in support of local authorities, to extinguish a forest fire that broke out in the Pouzols-Minervois area, in southern France, caused by extremely high temperatures. The mission, which began on Wednesday evening, was hampered by difficult conditions, such as strong winds and dense vegetation, which favored the rapid spread of the flames. Romanian firefighters operated under the coordination of French authorities, using three fire engines, a large-capacity tanker, and a radio vehicle for communications.
Over 500 firefighters participated in the intervention, including 23 from Romania. After completing the mission, the crews withdrew to restore operational capacity. Romania is participating in a European pre-positioning program in France, aimed at strengthening the capacity to respond to vegetation fires. The rotation of personnel is scheduled for July 16, when a new contingent of firefighters will take over the mission.
