Romanian firefighters from the national specialized module for extinguishing forest fires continued, yesterday, their mission to support the French authorities, intervening in various sectors, depending on the evolution of the fire.

The operational context is complex, with reignitions and isolated hotspots, amplified by strong winds and dry vegetation. The French authorities are using aerial firefighting resources, collaborating with ground forces. Romanian firefighters have carried out missions of surveillance, identification, and extinguishing of active hotspots, limiting the spread of the fire and protecting endangered objectives. The interventions have been difficult, requiring pedestrian access in hard-to-reach areas, and the rescuers have set up hose lines over long distances to supply the extinguishing devices.

The mission continues under the coordination of the French authorities, within the European Civil Protection Mechanism, to limit the effects of vegetation fires and to protect communities in at-risk areas.
