Vegetation and forest fires continue in the counties of Caraș-Severin and Vâlcea, where response teams are working to locate and extinguish the fire hotspots. In Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park, three Black Hawk helicopters operated by the General Aviation Inspectorate carried out 107 water drops on Wednesday, drawing water from Prisaca Lake.
The aerial intervention focused on the fire front and the flanks in the direction of spread, depending on the wind and the results of aerial reconnaissance. The number of missions increased steadily: 42 water drops on September 29, 77 on September 30, and 107 on October 1.
More than 120 firefighters and representatives of forestry agencies, Salvamont, the National Park, and volunteer services have been mobilized in Caraș-Severin. The helicopters will continue firefighting, prioritizing hotspots on rocky slopes and those located above populated areas. A drone belonging to the Hunedoara County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations will support aerial reconnaissance.
In the Băile Olănești area, Vâlcea County, the fire is spreading through several hotspots upstream from Iezer Monastery, toward the Buila-Vânturarița massif. More than 40 firefighters are operating in rugged terrain, where access for firefighting vehicles is difficult. The teams have created a mineralized firebreak to limit the spread of the flames. Two C-27J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Force are continuing support flights.
