The Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu has faced a major crisis after the ultra-Orthodox Shas party decided to leave the coalition, leaving it with just 50 seats in parliament. The decision was prompted by a draft law limiting exemption from military service for religious people. Although the loss of the two ultra-Orthodox parties does not immediately lead to early elections, Shas has announced that it will continue to support the government in parliament. In the context of the Gaza war, Netanyahu is facing pressure from far-right parties and growing public discontent with the conflict.
