In the midst of an electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections in October 2026, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing severe criticism after the release of a controversial video featuring his rival, Gadi Eisenkot, the leader of the opposition party Yashar.

The video, generated by artificial intelligence, shows Eisenkot running towards a young man who resembles his deceased son, Gal Eisenkot, during a rescue operation in Gaza. Critics, including Mansour Abbas, leader of the United Arab List, have accused the video of exploiting nationalist sentiments and sowing discord among communities. Other voices, such as Naama Lazimi and Einav Zangauker, have denounced Netanyahu's action as petty and disrespectful towards a grieving family.

According to polls, Eisenkot's party could win the elections, but it cannot form a government without the support of Arab parties, an idea rejected by Netanyahu's supporters.

Gadi Eisenkot has previously criticized Netanyahu's government for its policies, suggesting that they contributed to the death of his son.
