Hundreds of migrants who recently entered Ceuta organized a demonstration on the urban beach, demanding that the Spanish authorities grant them asylum, instead of sending them back to Morocco. They are part of a group of 5,000–8,000 people who remained in the enclave after a massive border crossing. Most migrants live in precarious conditions, waiting to continue their journey to Europe.
The Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, stated that migrants who entered illegally will not have the right to remain in Ceuta or to obtain legal status, except in cases of extreme vulnerability. The medical staff in Ceuta is exhausted, and outbreaks of diseases have occurred due to living conditions. Many migrants, coming from various countries, have been forced to leave due to poor economic conditions.
The protest was marked by slogans such as "We do not want to return to Morocco" and "We need a solution".
