Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force were scrambled on Friday morning from the Borcea 86th Air Base to monitor the situation near the border with Ukraine, after the Ministry of National Defence’s radar detected a group of drones approximately 16 kilometres from the town of Vylkove, in Ukraine.
At around 04:36, residents of northern Tulcea County received a RO-Alert message regarding the risk associated with the drones’ movements near the border. The air alert remained in effect until 06:30, when the authorities announced its termination.
The Ministry of National Defence states that the Romanian aircraft monitored the situation, but no drone incursions into Romania’s airspace were reported. The incident comes amid intensified drone activity near Romania’s borders, in the area of the conflict in Ukraine.
