Romania’s Ministry of National Defence detected an aerial target near Romania and scrambled two F-16 aircraft. The population of Tulcea received a RO-Alert / MApN: It did not enter national airspace

A RO-Alert message warning the population about a possible drone incursion was issued on Tuesday evening for the northern and northeastern areas of Tulcea County. The Ministry of National Defence stated that an aerial target had been detected in Ukraine, near the border with Romania, so two F-16 aircraft from Borcea Air Base were scrambled to monitor the situation.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, the target was identified northeast of the town of Vylkove, on Ukrainian territory. The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which ordered the population to be alerted. The RO-Alert message was sent at 23:35.

The two F-16 aircraft, on Air Policing combat duty, took off from Borcea 86th Air Base. Their mission was to observe and monitor the aerial target’s movements.

”The aerial alert ended at 00:36. No incursions into the national airspace were reported,” the Ministry of National Defence said on Wednesday morning.
