MoND detected an aerial target near Romania / Two Spanish F-18 aircraft were scrambled. RO-Alert message issued in Tulcea

The Ministry of National Defence announced that an aerial target was detected approximately 30 kilometers east of Snake Island, in Ukrainian airspace, near Romania’s border. As a precautionary measure, two Spanish F-18 aircraft, on Air Policing combat duty, were scrambled from Mihail Kogălniceanu military base in Constanța County.

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations after the aerial target was identified and approached Romanian airspace. The authorities sent an RO-Alert message at 14:02 for residents in the eastern area of Tulcea County.

According to official information, the target was detected in Ukrainian airspace. The MApN communication does not indicate that it entered Romanian airspace. The scrambling of the Spanish aircraft and the population alert were ordered as monitoring and protection measures, in the context of aerial activity near the border.
