Drone detected east of Izmail, near the border with Romania. Two F-18 aircraft were scrambled / A RO-Alert message was issued in Tulcea

An aerial target was detected during the night of September 29 to 30, east of Izmail, on the territory of Ukraine, near the river border with Romania, the Ministry of National Defence announced. No incursions into the national airspace were detected.

To monitor the situation, two F-18 aircraft of the Spanish Air and Space Force, assigned to the Enhanced Air Policing mission, took off after the target was identified by the Ministry of National Defence’s radar system.

The National Military Command Center informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, and the authorities ordered measures to alert the population in the northern part of Tulcea County. At 00:35, a RO-Alert message was sent.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, the air alert ended at 00:10. The ministry did not report the target entering Romanian airspace and did not announce any incidents occurring on national territory. The Spanish aircraft remained involved in monitoring the situation as part of the Enhanced Air Policing mission. The relationship between the times mentioned in the official communication is to be clarified.
