Ilie Bolojan: PNL will not sabotage snap elections if they resolve the political crisis

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said Thursday evening that the National Liberal Party (PNL) would not sabotage the organization of snap elections if they become the constitutional solution to break the political deadlock in Romania. He stressed, however, that he does not want such a scenario and that the priority is to form a government capable of functioning.

The statement was made on B1 TV, after the Liberal leader was asked whether the party was preparing for government, opposition or possible snap elections. Bolojan explained that, in the event of a prolonged political deadlock or the repeated rejection of a government, the Constitution allows the procedure for snap elections to be initiated.

The interim prime minister said that, if these conditions are met and the president of Romania considers snap elections the appropriate solution, the PNL will not oppose them. He described snap elections as a difficult solution, but one provided for by the Constitution.

Bolojan also accused the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of contributing to the worsening of the crisis through its conduct and argued that the PNL had remained consistent during this period. The statements come amid negotiations and the lack of a stable political formula for forming the new government.
