Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Monday evening, in a message posted on Facebook, that the liberals would no longer govern together with the PSD, accusing the party of failing to honor its commitments and repeatedly causing political crises.
Bolojan argued that Romania urgently needs a government with full powers, given that the current Executive is operating with limited powers. He specified that the PNL is willing to support the investiture of a government without being part of it and that he had presented this proposal to Luca Niculescu, together with a series of conditions.
According to the liberal leader, in the case of a technocratic government, an agreement could be concluded between the prime minister and each parliamentary party. The document would provide for support for certain objectives over a set period, including the adoption of next year's budget.
The statements come after the PSD allegedly asked Bolojan to leave office immediately, without presenting a solution for taking over the government. Subsequently, the Social Democrats asked him to remain at the helm of the Executive. Bolojan defended the current course, citing the completion of the PNRR, favorable assessments by rating agencies, and compliance with the commitments undertaken.
