The Spanish government announced on Thursday the establishment of two housing centers for 1,800 migrants in Ceuta, in response to the humanitarian crisis generated by the arrival of approximately 72,000 migrants from Morocco on July 30 and 31. Although most have returned to Morocco, those who remain, including unaccompanied children, are facing difficulties in accessing food, water, and shelter.
Many of them have slept on the streets or on the beach, and NGOs are warning about the vulnerability of women and girls. Locals are complaining about hygiene issues and insecurity.
The Ministry of Migration stated that the new centers will provide temporary housing solutions for migrants. Meanwhile, a political dispute has erupted between the central government and the Popular Party, which is calling for the expulsion of migrants, while the Secretary of State for Children emphasizes that mass expulsions of minors are illegal. The government intends to transfer 500 girls to mainland Spain, considering their special needs.
