The Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, stated that almost all migrants who arrived in Ceuta have returned to Morocco, announcing the end of the crisis after an influx of at least 50,000 people.

Albares emphasized that the integrity of the Schengen area has been maintained and that migrants could not reach the continental part of Spain without identification. Criticizing the confusion generated by political interests, he also responded to criticism from some EU member states, such as Italy, which temporarily suspended the Schengen agreement with Spain.

The crisis was fueled by a recent decision of the Spanish Supreme Court, which restricted rapid expulsions, generating a misinterpretation of the opening of borders. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez mentioned that criminal networks have taken advantage of this situation. The massive entry of migrants led to a major humanitarian crisis in Ceuta, with 60 reported deaths, and prompted the mobilization of the Spanish army.
