On Saturday, over 50,000 people gathered in the center of Valencia to commemorate the victims of the floods in October 2024 and to protest against the regional authorities, especially President Carlos Mazón. The protesters demanded "Justice!" and denounced the "criminal negligence" of the authorities, accusing Mazón of mismanaging the situation.
The floods caused the death of 229 people, including 9 Romanians, making it the worst disaster of its kind in Spain in recent decades. Criticism of the authorities continues, with residents accusing them of failing to provide adequate warning of the danger. Carlos Mazón has rejected responsibility, stating that the scale of the phenomenon was not predictable. Despite the controversy, he enjoys the support of the leader of the Popular Party, but the situation remains tense, and state funerals for the victims are scheduled for Wednesday, in the presence of the king and the prime minister.
