The President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, stated on Friday that his country is in a 'new phase' of 'permanent agreements', following the implementation of a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Aoun asserted that Lebanon is no longer a 'theater for the wars of others' and that the government has regained decision-making power. The conflict began on March 2, when Hezbollah attacked Israel, provoking a massive response from it, resulting in thousands of deaths and displacements. Aoun mentioned that negotiations with Israel do not represent a weakness, but an opportunity to secure the rights of the Lebanese people.
The President thanked those who contributed to the ceasefire, including Donald Trump. He also emphasized that any agreement will respect Lebanon's sovereignty and will not compromise national rights. Aoun reaffirmed the commitment to put an end to Israeli aggression and to extend the authority of the state over the entire territory.
