The party of Argentine President Javier Milei, La Libertad Avanza, won the midterm legislative elections with 40.7% of the votes, surpassing the Peronist opposition bloc, Fuerza Patria, which obtained 24.5%.
This victory provides them with a stronger parliamentary base, increasing the number of deputies from 37 to 101 and senators from 6 to 20. Milei stated that the result confirms his mandate from 2023 and will allow him to advance the necessary economic reforms for a fragile economy.
Although he has managed to reduce inflation from over 200% to 31.8%, budget adjustments have led to job losses and reduced economic activity. Analysts suggest that Milei needs to adopt a more pragmatic approach and collaborate with the opposition to secure the necessary majority in parliament. Voter turnout was 67.9%, the lowest since 1983.
