The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, has resumed attacks against his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, calling him a "thief" and "corrupt" in an interview with LN+. The statements come shortly after Milei provoked a diplomatic crisis between Buenos Aires and Brasilia with similar accusations.

Milei claimed that Lula was convicted of theft and corruption, having a prison sentence, and stated that he is a 'convict'. These attacks led to Brazil's reaction, which recalled its ambassador from Buenos Aires for consultations and summoned the Argentine ambassador to express an official protest.

Despite the tensions, Argentine authorities have tried to minimize the impact, stating that the divergences are political and ideological. Brazil remains Argentina's main trading partner, and Lula has begun campaigning for a new presidential term.

Milei, who has been in charge of Argentina since December 2023, has hinted that he will run for a new term in 2027. He justified his attacks by opposing leftist governments, stating that denouncing a thief is not an aggressive act.
