In March, Japan received 3.62 million foreign visitors, marking a 3.5% increase compared to the previous year, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). This increase was driven by the blooming of cherry blossoms (sakura) and coincided with school holidays, including Easter. South Korea was the main source of tourists, with 795,600 visitors, followed by Taiwan and other regions.
Although the number of tourists from China decreased by 56% due to political tensions, Japan recorded significant increases from other countries, including France and Germany. Additionally, the depreciation of the yen has made Japan a more accessible destination. The Japanese government aims to attract 60 million tourists annually by 2030, despite the risks of overtourism.
