The earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan, which occurred on Tuesday at 16:27 local time, has resulted in 28 deaths so far, according to Minoru Kihara, the Secretary General of the Tokyo Government.

The Kyushu region has been affected by over 100 aftershocks, maintaining a high alert level in the affected areas.

Authorities have decided to evacuate approximately 260,000 residents from Kumamoto Prefecture, and over 36,000 homes have been left without electricity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest has issued a travel advisory for Romanian citizens, warning about the tsunami risk in the regions of Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Saga, and Nagasaki.

Japan, located on the 'Ring of Fire' of the Pacific, is one of the most seismically active areas in the world, accounting for about 20% of global earthquakes with a magnitude of at least 6.0.
